Lee Jeffries is a contemporary realist photographer who focuses on portraying the homeless. ’Everyone else walks by like the homeless are invisible. I’m stepping through the fear, in the hope that people will realise these people are just like me and you.’ His photographs have the gravity and the authenticity that emerges from genuine human connections. Lee Jeffries does know each of his subject personally – sometimes even sharing their rough sleeping experience to build a real relationship. Through astonishing close ups, Lee Jeffries expresses this heart moving intimacy and captures the universal beauty of humanity.

Kris Kuksi - Dharma Bovine - sculpture

A post-industrial Rococo master, Kris Kuksi obsessively arranges characters and architecture in asymmetric compositions with an exquisite sense of drama. Instead of stones and shells he uses screaming plastic soldiers, miniature engine blocks, towering spires and assorted debris to form his landscapes.
The political, spiritual and material conflict within these shrines is enacted under the calm gaze of remote deities and august statuary. Kuksi manages to evoke, at once, a sanctum and a mausoleum for our suffocated spirit.

Christian Noorbergen

Sculptures New Skin is part of a series of tree bark figures that are meant to represent some of the individual characteristics shared by trees and humans. New Skin III represents the common characteristic of both trees and humans naturally exfoliating their skin. The sculpture is made entirely from birch and hickory shag bark. Both are trees that naturally shed their bark or « skin ».

revisited Romulus and Remus – Artist Liu Qiang – sculpture (China)

Like a modern-day homage to the famous symbol of Rome, the statue of Remus and Romulus, artist Liu Qiang’s powerful sculpture entitled “29h59’59″ commands a powerful presence at China’s 798 Art District in Beijing. The exploitation of animals in modern agriculture and humanity’s perverse reliance on animals for food takes center stage in the riveting piece of art. We found the interpretation of a fellow Facebook fan, Joanna Lucas,  particularly interesting. She posted the photo with the following caption:

“This stunning sculpture by Liu Qiang is an accurate depiction of humanity’s use of, and utter dependence on other animals and, in particular, the savage and bizarre habit of consuming the breast milk from mothers of other species—milk that these mothers have produced for their own babies, babies that we forced them to become pregnant with only to kill shortly after birth so that we can take the bereft mother’s milk, milk that we drink as though we were the children that we murdered.”

Alone, he learns sculpture by observing nature – collecting wood, leaves, seeds, soil or mud. Inspired by the works of Giacometti, Brancusi and Zadkine. His poetic universe is full of human nature. The fragil wooden or land, « still lifes » who have much to say about the state of  world.
